Q&A with Tim Andresen

WH_logo_black_1000x1000We just released a 10 track multi-label release with one of the tracks coming from a familiar name on DeepWit, Tim Andresen. Tim is the label owner of What Happens, the label “3.05AM (Do You Remember)” was originally released on earlier in 2013. Tim is both one of our favourite DJ’s and one of the best musicians and labels owners we have had the privilege to meet and work with over the years. Below is a rather enjoyable Q&A’s and an outstanding Deep House track from the man behind What Happens.

Q. Name and favorite flavour of ice-cream?
A. Tim Andresen  and all kinds of sorbet.

Q. How long have you been making music?
A. Been producing for a good decade. First as part of Professional Losers and then solo under my own name for the past 8-9 years.

 Q. How long have you been running your label “What Happens” and what made you decide to start it up?
A. What Happens has now been running for 7 years. The attention that some of the releases got from the labels I was signed to was simply not satisfying and therefore I decided I would do something about it myself. All releases deserve some promotion. Producers put in a lot of work, heart and soul in what they do and seeing some random label dude not following up isn’t good enough. The music industry is still full of that so I advise everyone to pick carefully who they work with.

Q. Is it more rewarding to run What Happens or produce music?
A. I would still say I get the biggest buzz from creating music although I wouldn’t run a label if I didn’t love it. These days it’s a lot of work for nearly nothing but it’s nice to see things come together from the earliest part of the process to the end result in the shops and hearing it played on the dance floors.

Q. What are your favorite labels and or producers?
A. That changes all the time and since I enjoy playing both deep house through to tougher tech house and anything related depending on venue and crowd, there are quite a few. I really enjoy working with guys like James Dutton and Alvaro Hylander as they deliver top quality tracks every time but also keep an eye out for Jon Sweetname who I think have raised to the next level production wise and just did a wicked EP for us due out next month. Other favorites at the moment include Mihai Popoviciu, Markus Homm, Detlef, Ben Grunnell, Santé, Piemont, Sidney Charles, Matt Keyl, Anthony Mea, Gorge, Shur-I-Kan and I also love nearly all the releases coming from labels like UM Records, Savoir Faire Musique and your own DeepWit.

Q. Favorite genre of music outside of what you produce?
A. Wow, that’s a tough question to answer. But I usually put on chilled stuff if any.

Q. What program do you use to produce?
A. I use Logic. That’s the only program I have ever used and will probably stick to it forever.

Q. Must have piece of production software or equipment?
A. I use Stylus RMX in all my tracks so that’s essential for me.

Q. Favorite Social Media site for spreading the word about music?
A. Definitely Facebook although I recently started to use Twitter too.

Q. What is the question you wished people would ask you?
A. This question.

Q. What’s your favorite animal?
A. My cat Harry. He’s now 12 and despite being diagnosed with diabetis a couple of years ago, he’s still full of energy. Lovely little fella.

Q. And what do you get up to outside of music?
A. I’m the resident DJ at Scandinavia’s leading club Culture Box and assist them one day a week with various stuff. I also enjoy eating at various restaurants, go jogging and to the gym every now and then, support my football team and spend time with my girls. Apart from that it’s all about music production, running the label, DJing and promoting the two monthly parties I run.
